May 30th, 2008 DaveText Posted in Medical Business No Comments »

Using a doctors directory can definitely help you in finding a doctor to help you with your ailment. You can find doctors directories through a number of ways. Furthermore, there are certain things you can do while using a directory to increase your chances of finding the right doctor.

Whether you have minor aches or you feel that you have a serious ailment, consulting a doctor is the first and most important step to a quick and complete recovery. These health specialists are ready and able to know the source of your pain or illness and are the only ones who are authorized to prescribe the appropriate medicine for your condition. However, if you do not know a particular doctor yet, it could be difficult to find one, considering the huge number of clinics and hospitals in every city. But although this may be true, there are certain things you can do to simplify the process of searching for a doctor.

Getting a doctors directory is definitely the best way to look for and find the said health expert. This is a publication that contains an alphabetical list of names of doctors with the address and contact number of each one. You can find doctors directories through a number of ways. First, you can visit the nearest clinic or hospital in your district or city. Most likely, these medical establishments have directories wherein you can find the names of doctors and physicians and the address of the hospitals they work for. This option is suitable for you if you don’t mind a little legwork and you have a certain day wherein you have much free time. In addition, you can search for doctor’s directories on the Internet. You can use the search engines provided by Yahoo or Google in looking for this type of online service. Simply enter the keywords “doctors directory” on the search field and within seconds, you would be able to view a number of directories of doctors. One unique feature of these web-based directories is that they can let you enter a particular word to narrow down the search results they would show you. These words can be the name of a hospital or any other term to make the search more specific. These online doctors directories can even have links to the websites of the doctors included in them. This is a very useful feature, as it would allow you to know a doctor more so that you could properly decide if you indeed would like to consult him.

Moving on, while looking for a doctor through a directory, you need to keep in mind a few things to make your search more efficient. First, you have to make sure that the directory contains doctors that are working in hospitals or clinics, which are within your city. This is crucial especially if your need to contact a doctor is urgent. Next, you should determine the type of doctor you need. Knowing exactly whether you need to consult a dentist, a physician, an osteopath, or any other type of doctor will definitely make your search easier as directories usually organize doctors according to their specific practice. Lastly, you should try to view more than two directories. This will let you have more options and help you know more doctors so that you would have an idea of who to contact the next time you need to consult one.

Benefits Of Online Pharmacies

May 29th, 2008 HalLewis Posted in Medical Business No Comments »

If you are looking for a great way to order your prescriptions at your convenience, online pharmacies may be the way to go for you. There are many options for online pharmacies available to you and many of these options can save you time or money over using the drive-through pharmacy. If you are ill and have a hard time getting about, then purchase a revolving prescription fulfillment from an online pharmacy, and have your drugs arrive in the mail before your last refill runs out!

It can be very confusing trying to navigate the thousands of online sites and find one you can trust, and there are many many different options. How do you go about finding the best option for your needs? First, you must establish what you want in an online pharmacy. What is important to you? Your desires may include free shipping or overnight shipping available or that all your medication can be ordered from the same online pharmacy. Whatever your desires are, you should make sure that your potential online pharmacy should accommodate your desires. You should also consider the reputation of the online pharmacy and the testimonies, if listed, on the website. Often, these testimonies will give great insight of the capability and respectability of the online pharmacy. Beware though, as some of these testimonies may be made up by the site. When you become a consumer at certain online stores, including pharmacies, the store may reward testimonies that they use with coupons or discounts on future purchases. If you have something to say, and time to write it, let them know what you think with a letter or email.

Shipping prices and estimated arrival times are always something to consider when choosing an online pharmacy. Often times the shipping prices and time delays are a deal-breaker. You may want to opt for an online pharmacy that gives you a variety of shipping methods and services (i.e.: two day mail, overnight mail, delivery tracking, and other methods and services). Some may give you free shipping for spending a certain amount of money or on a frequent shopper basis.

Another element to consider is incentives that the potential online pharmacy may offer. Frequent shopper incentives, free shipping for a certain purchases quantity or total expense, coupons, discounts, and frequent sales events may be the deciding factor. If you like the idea of being able to order your prescriptions online, but be able to walk into an actual brick and mortar store, a possible choice for you is a major chain store that allows both of these elements to be at your disposal. On the other hand, if you just want the best price with the most convenience, a strictly-online pharmacy may be your preferred method of obtaining your prescriptions.

There are many 24 hour brick-and-mortar pharmacies out there, but a good majority of them are family-owned and don’t stay open every hour on every day of the year. Many online pharmacies are available 24 hours a day, seven days a week and open on holidays. Not many brick and mortar pharmacies have this unlimited convenience for you. Using an online pharmacy is a great way to accomplish a great deal while not being stranded at the store ordering or picking up your prescriptions and wasting valuable time. With an online pharmacy, you can quickly access your account, order prescriptions, and view your history with one click of a button at your convenience whether it is 3 p.m. or 2 a.m.

Online-Drug-Source.com is the place to go for information to help you find the best online pharmacies out there on the internet. They have information to help you if you are looking to buy tramadol online, or other popular pain medications.

Sleep Paralysis: How To Deal With It!

May 26th, 2008 DavidH. Posted in Medical Business No Comments »

There is a sleep disorder that happens before falling asleep and/or waking up. It is important that you understand why this happens, how and what causes it to occur.

It is believed that sleep is a natural occurrence that can help the body to rest and recharge. However, its purposes are only partly clear. In the natural cycle of sleep, there are two types, which are the REM or rapid eye movements and the non-rapid eye movement or NREM.

The rapid eye movement type of sleep has a low voltage electroencephalogram. This has a relatively absent muscle tone. This is the type of sleep where in you tend to remember your dreams as they occur. In the non–rapid eye movement type of sleep, this accounts for about 75 up to 80 % of total sleeping time to a normal adult. There is a less chance that you can remember your dreams.

As compared to REM, it has four stages: stages 1 and 2 are considered light sleep, while stages 3 and 4 are known as deep sleep or slow wave sleep, as seen in the electroencephalogram. Oftentimes, during NREM, there are movements in the extremities. This causes “Parasomnias” like sleep walking.

Now, with regards to the things that control the sleeping pattern of humans, the circadian clock found in our brain mainly controls it. This is along with a human’s willingness to sleep. The timing for a correct and optimal sleep also depends on the correct timing when the two circadian markers occur right after the middle period of sleep and before awakening. Thus, this results to the maximal secretion of melatonin and the minimum core body temperature.

At the National Sleep Foundation in the United States, they claimed that eight to nine hours of sleep for adults is optimal and may even offer benefits like good memory, alertness and problem solving solutions. Furthermore, overall health can also be guaranteed. A study from the University Of Pennsylvania School Of Medicine also showed that cognitive and school performance decreases for those who have fewer than eight hours sleep.

The average amount of sleep an individual needs per day depends on the age of that person. If you are and adult, mainly seven hours up to eight hours or more of sleep will do. If you are an adolescent, between 13 up to 17 years old, nine up to ten hours is required.

This makes sleep important; not only for the rest it can provide us but for the learning capacity we can endure given that we meet the necessary time needed for sleep. With regards to sleep paralysis, why and how it happens and how can we really manage it? This is a condition characterized by the non-permanent paralysis of the body. This happens shortly after we wake up or shortly before we fall asleep. It occurs when the brain is in the REM state and then you suddenly wake up even though as somewhat body paralysis persists.

It is important to remember that in REM there is a so called REM atonia or absent muscle tone. This can make a person conscious to everything that is happening but cannot move his or her body. There is also a hallucinatory element of this state, on which you see fanciful objects similar to dream-like objects that may appear in the room along with one’s normal vision. Some scientist proposed that this condition calls for a theory on alien abductions and ghostly encounters.

The symptoms that an individual can experience are paralysis (as mentioned) and hallucinations, which can either be experienced in combination or not. These symptoms may be observed for a fraction of a second or up to several minutes. The possible causes that some scientist suggested were:

1)Some motor neurons or cells in the brain, which are responsible for a person’s motor skills, are affected by an impediment of their release and thus, stops functioning;

2)Low levels of melatonin, which is a substance in the brain responsible for sleeping. This can prevent the stimulation of the muscles of the dreamer.

It is said that most people who suffer from sleep paralysis, also suffers narcolepsy later on in life. There are also reports on certain factors that can increase the occurrence of this disorder. One factor is sleeping in an upward position, having an irregular sleeping schedule, increased stress, sudden environmental or lifestyle changes and a dream, which precedes the episode.

Treatment involves drugs like Clonazepam and Ritalin. The one mostly recommended is Clonazepam because of its high effective results. Ritalin is successful as a daytime drug, which promotes structured sleeping patterns and can prevent sleep paralysis in some patients. Monitoring of blood pressure is a must while using this drug.

Certain steps can also help you lessen the episodes of this disorder. You should learn how to recognize sleep paralysis. It is best to know the symptoms. Ask friends if they have the same experiences, this way, you can somehow overcome your fright. You should also determine the inducing factors that are present in your current lifestyle. The best preventive way possible is for you to try to lessen or completely avoid the triggers present in your life.

Regular sleep is highly recommended to significantly reduce the likelihood of sleep paralysis. If you have a partner or someone who shares the bed with you, you need to tell him about it and ask him that he should wake you out of your paralysis. You can do this by opening your eyes and doing a groaning sound in order to call his attention. When you get older this event is less likely because it only happens mostly at a young age. When you are a teenager it may be so frequent but once you get to your thirty’s, it may lessen or even before this happens all the symptoms may disappear completely. Lastly, you need to write down when you had your last episode. This way, you can track down if it’s happening in an increasing fashion.

Thus, knowing these symptoms can provide you not just an understanding of the situation but the right way on how you can deal with this dilemma. The tips given should be kept in mind. Being afraid can do more harm than good, so just relax and maintain a healthy way of living and sleeping.

How To Collect Medical Billing Claims From Insurance Companies

May 25th, 2008 PeterGeisheker Posted in Medical Business No Comments »

Physicians have always had to juggle the tasks of their office. Often, small practices could not afford to hire an office staff and the physician would have to do it all; see patients, make appointment, and fill out and submit medical claims to insurance companies. The problem was physicians would rely on the payment from the insurance company and if a mistake were made the claim would be rejected, leaving the physician to start all over again.

In today’s technology based workplace, a physician does not have to do everything him or herself. There are companies who have specially trained professionals to assist you in your billing needs, giving the physician more time to spend with patients.

Medical billing today is an integral part of healthcare. Healthcare providers understand that medical billing is a serious part of the medical practices financial status, as do the medical billing companies that process their claims.

Medical billing is the process of collecting fees for medical services. It is a highly specialized field that requires special training. Medical billing is an important part of a medical practice because it is the one thing that can hinder payment from the insurance company and put the practice into financial crisis.

Handling medical claims in the office could lead to financial hardship if the insurance company finds any mistakes and rejects the claim.

A medical billing company specializes in billing for any type of medical facility. The can process claims infinitely faster because all claims are filed electronically. This means that the claims are paid in days instead of weeks or months.

Many medical practices hire a person to file their medical claims; the problem with this is that all of the “I’s” need to be dotted and the “T’s” need to be crossed or the insurance company will reject the claim and the process will start all over again. This can create a huge problem if more than one claim is rejected.

Medical billing companies track each claim to insure that it is accepted and to make changes should mistakes occur. The claim is resubmitted electronically, and what used to take months now only takes hours.

Many medical practices need to have employees who can multi task, when medical billing is involved, it requires total concentration and attention to detail. This often means that a practice will have to hire an additional person to do the medical billing. It is an added expense that any practice can do without with they hire a medical billing company. Often, the cost of using a medical billing company is less than a full time employee.

The success of medical billing is astounding. More than ninety percent of all claims are accepted on the first submission, allowing medical practices to receive payment for their services much faster then any other method.

One of the biggest advantages to medical billing is that anyone in the medical field can use medical billing services. Dermatologist to Phlebotomist can use medical billing to submit their claims.

A medical transcription company can provide a full suite of services for your healthcare business so that your physicians and other healthcare professionals can obtain high quality data whenever they need it. How a Medical Transcription Company Works

Many medical transcription companies offer specialized services within their project scope as well; this means you can count on several services for each department and look forward to accurate data that follows each department’s guidelines and requirements.

Specialty Services from a Medical Transcription Company

The report is then electronically sent to quality control for review; this ensures that all HIPAA guidelines are followed, and that the data is as accurate as possible. Since accuracy is critical to the success of any transcription, the software and dictation devices available today are designed to capture data efficiently and effectively. In some cases, the doctor can submit a dictation directly over the web.

After quality control has reviewed the documents, the final reports are made available to your healthcare professional and organization. Reporting typically takes the form of electronic files which can be downloaded to a physicians’ computer or other portable device. This makes it easier than ever to retrieve important data for review at a moments’ notice; in most situations, the transcription process takes just 24-48 hours.
